Hmmm, where to begin.
Well, in this game there is always a certain level of self serving drivel. People feel the need to power trip, get big on themselves and wreck havoc on those around them. We all know these people, hell some of us are these people. But every now and then the idiocy reaches terminal velocity and a guild kerplodes.
Which brings us to my latest guild switcheroo.
I had been raiding with a guild called Purgatory. Our 10 man was pound for pound one of the best I have ever been apart of. I have played with alot of good people over the years but this team was special. We had a strong raid leader, knowledgeable (though at times short tempered), 2 awesome tanks, 3 of the buffest melee dps in the game, 2 epic casters, and 3 healers that allow us to get stupid with abandon. It was all and all amazing.
Hell, we were working on Arthas!
He's right there people, RIGHT THERE!!!!!

Well a temper flare (don't care who, don't care where) happened to crit for about 400K and wiped my raid.
The short of it is this, someone started off in the right, and in the span of 4 days became so horribly wrong that the original offender actually became right. Yeah, reread it -aloud if you must. I don't even know the specifics, nor do I care, but the aftermath was the shit of nightmare and legend. So with the GM's silence so went Purgatory. The guild still exists, but its just a shell guild for the GM's toons.
I was torn about what to do at first. I had some reservation and a bit of difficulty with the second party in the "temper flare" event. Infact I thought it was a two way street, mutual respect for each others ability with equal distaste for each others behavior. I found that wasn't the case, and more over that the other party had no idea how thier behavior was affecting others.
I wavered.
A pair of shared friends, a guild divided, Arthas still alive, and the only one trying to fix it was the very person that should have been in exile. People were /gquiting. Some with class, and other were just asses. The remaining officers and a couple of us members of the core group tried to keep the peace to little avail...
I wavered, again.
The GM of Purgatory made like he was going to address the masses. He logged in, said good evening, spoke to the officers of nothing more then a extended break and logged off.
I informed my friends that if they decided to leave I would go with them provided the new guild would have me.
As these things often go my phone rang at 1am, my wife jabbing me in the ribs to point it out trying to vibrate off the dresser. I logged into WoW, told the 4 assembled people that I was going to the Dark Side for the promise of cookies. I asked my future GM if he needed my class/spec, which he playfully said he didn't (and quickly reneg'd), and I /gquit Purgatory with my friend on my heels.
Wolfsfury is now a member of Dirty Honor.
I have no idea where I'm going, but I sure know where I've been. The guy heading up the charge has begun the painful process of proving me wrong and in turn is earning my respect. A month ago I would never have said any of this was possible, but he's to be commended. He's stepped up, and while at times you can here the struggle in his voice, he's working to change and for that he has my respect and support however he shall need it.
And if he's reading this, I hope he realizes this is a compliment.
Arthas!!!!!!!!!!!! You and I have some unfinished business!
